DIY Deodorant. Yes, you read that right.

Aargh! I have so many projects that I want to do. Gifts for others, post-maternity clothes for myself, home dec stuff, new food to make, organizing my recipes... the list goes on. But with a baby and a toddler, I'm doing good to get myself showered before noon. (How could I have forgotten how time-consuming nursing is?) Here's one small endeavor that I squeezed in between cleaning house and making dinner:

Home made deodorant. I'm getting closer and closer to becoming a dirty hippie.

I found the recipe here, and it was really simple to make. I already had all the ingredients, thanks to my gluten-free kitchen. I added some eucalyptus and lavender essential oils, just to increase the crunchiness factor. The texture reminds me of frosting. Which smells like the forest.

And speaking of smelling, after a week of using this there's still no funk, no odor, no nose-wrinkling, nothing! I'm amazed. In my opinion, this works better than regular deodorant, although since it is not an antiperspirant it feels odd to actually have my armpits sweat. I keep checking my pits though, and it could be that instead of turning into a dirty hippie, I'm turning into Mary Catherine Gallagher. "Sometimes, when I get really nervous, I put my hands under my armpits, and then I smell them like this..."

Nope, still smells good!

Hey thanks for stopping by my blog...I lurk here too:o) I am loving the homemade deoderant idea. I just read about it on Creative Kismet...she used Angry Chicken's recipe...yours is simpler and worth a try. Also Mary Catherine Gallager cracks me up...always has...'cept now my 6 year old, having never even heard of Mary Catherine, has a habit of sniffing her fingers when she's nervous...oh crap! At least they weren't in her armpits first!

Ha ~ that's why there is 2 1/2 years between my boys ... just enough time to forget how much work a baby is!

Angela--your little girl sounds like a budding superstar!
Adrienne--I just told my husband yesterday that if we have another kid, we're increasing the time between!

Not sure I'll be mixing up a batch of "dirty hippy" but I'm still doubled over laughing. Thanks as a fellow mother of two younger than four I feel your time.
