Nursing apron

What is a nursing apron, you ask? Only a nursing mother's best tool ever!

Without it, I don't think I would have nursed in public, ever. I'm just too clumsy. Nursing is beautiful and a miracle and the perfect food and all that, but I also don't want to flash anyone but my husband. (Hi, honey!)

I shamelessly copied the one I was given (the tag says "Aloha Baby" but I can't find it online), and gave it to my friend Sunday night. The baby shower started at 5:30, and I finished sewing it at 5:27. Thus, no picture. But I do have a picture of the one my mom made for my sister-in-law, also copied from mine:

Really, these are awesome. Blankets aren't secure, nursing tops are expensive, and flashing family members is just awkward. There's boning across the top to let you see the baby, but nobody else can see anything. Pretty cool.

For the record, mine took longer than half an hour to make, but my mom has experience and I had a toddler on my lap when I was trying to sew. That's why it took several sessions and I finished it only minutes before the shower. Please don't tell Lisa.

These things are great. I made one last summer, although mine was more of a flannel blanket with ties. And I made mine at the last minute... like 15 minutes before we left on a family camping trip. I thought, "there's no way I'm gonna nurse in front of my husband's extended family." And that was the motivation I needed to get it done. :)

I wish those had been around when my kids were babes. I used to just hope that the t-shirt kept things covered, as they would whip off any blankets. I had one or two nursing tops that I would wear on any day where I wasn't sure where I was going to be sat nursing.

I recently lost mine--don't ask me how. I need to make another one for myself, but would much rather be sewing something more exciting!
